The apples came from Ron's parents - they have an apple tree - not sure what kind. They make REALLY good applesauce and apple pies. I thought about keeping some apples to freeze to make a pie later...but changed my mind after "playing" with the apples for several hours!
This was before the applesauce exploded...yes...EXPLODED. I didn't know it was possible. I made some cupcakes too once the last apples were in...I heard a noise and had no idea what it was and I happened to look over and there was applesauce all over the stove and going down the side of the pot.....so just watch whenever you make applesauce! :) Also, it's fairly healthy...I MAYBE added 2-3 Tblsps of sugar to the whole pot! Yummy!!!
Oh and - thanks to mom...the hamburger masher from Pampered Chef - is WONDERFUL to chop your apples as they cook if you don't have a hand potato masher!
THANKS MOM!

I hate to say that I added more sugar than that to my applesauce. Julie's going to be asking you to borrow the apple peeler. When we made ours at church we left the skins on (except if there were any bad spots) to cook & then they separate in the food mill. Yummy, I pulled a bag out of the freezer to eat this week.
You're welcome. The apple peeler looks quite nifty if you have a lot to do. UMMM, I can smell them cooking - so good.

Did you maybe have it too hot - is that why it exploded??? hmmm. Sounds great though! Keith and I worked together Friday night and peeled, cut, and cored 1 1/4 bushels of apples! We got 13 pints canned + 2 small coolwhip containers to freeze (I ran out of jars) I borrowed a friend's peeler and was amazed how much faster it went! Keith used it, I chopped, stirred, prepared jars, etc etc. I think we started around 6:30 and I had all my applesauce done by 10:45? With a crockpot full of apple butter for the next day :) Yeah, so far we've had apple cake, apple pie. I would make every apple dessert possible (dumplings / crisp etc) but you can only eat so much dessert! Oh and I usually don't add any sugar but this year it was WAY sour and had to add a cup! Anyway - looks like we're on the same time table for tomatoes and apples :) Fun to compare results!
